LYRG meets Legislative Council Minister
Published on 06 March 2025
The Shadow Minister had heard about Unley's youth initiative and was keen to meet with its members.
The Living Young Reference Group (LYRG) had opportunity to raise issues which matter to them and to other young people in their communities.
The LYRG did a fantastic job highlighting their work as volunteers in Council and speaking about some of the initiatives they have implemented or been involved in, including annual budgets, community and cultural plans, library services, environmental projects, park masterplans, walking and cycling strategies and youth development projects.
Different members of the group presented information on initiatives they had led, such as the Living Green challenge for sustainability and the Design-a-thon competition supporting mental health for young people, along with Council’s youth entrepreneurship program Fish Tank.
The Shadow Minister was genuinely interested to hear what the Living Young group had been involved in and had to say.
At present, Unley is fortunate to have the full complement of young people on the working group.
However, Council's youth coordinators wish to encourage young people to keep in touch for future opportunities, and to sign up to receive the Living Young E-Newsletter to hear about all events, activities and programs of interest.
Young people and their families are also urged to check out council’s website to see what the LYRG have planned in workshops during SA Youth Week which is coming up in April.
