City of Unley Ticket Machines Going Cashless

Published on 06 January 2025

Cars parked in the pay for use parking zone

The City of Unley operates paid parking at three key locations: Bartley Crescent (60 on-street spaces), Rose Terrace and Cooke Terrace (31 on-street spaces), and Railway Terrace South (33 on-street spaces between Musgrave Avenue and Goodwood Road).

Currently, only 5% of transactions at these Pay-for-Use Ticket Machines are made using cash. This aligns with national trends, as the use of cash has significantly declined in recent years, with contactless and cashless payments becoming the preferred methods.

The parking industry has embraced this shift, with many councils across Australia, including the City of Adelaide, transitioning to cashless systems. This change has resulted in faster, more efficient transactions and reduced maintenance costs.

What will be changing

From Monday 3 February 2025, the City of Unley will transition its Pay-for-Use Ticket Machines to cashless operation.

  • The coin payment option will be permanently removed, and coin slots will be covered.
  • All references to coin payments will be updated to reflect the new cashless approach.
  • Payments will only be accepted via card.

This change will not affect the current parking fees of $1.50 per hour or $6.00 per day (2024/25 rates).

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to improve the efficiency and convenience of our parking services.
