by Jon Klassen
This is an old story. It is about a girl named Otilla who runs away. It is also about a house in the woods, and a skull who lives there, and a secret the skull has, and the night that Otilla finds out what that secret is.
From Lewis: I would like to recommend something a little different; a picture book for ages six and above. But please be assured, this book has much to recommend for readers of all ages. Author Jon Klassen presents his own take on a spooky an existing folk tale, beautiful in its narrative simplicity and universal themes of friendship and belonging. The story evokes an eerie atmosphere, especially coupled with Klassen’s gothic styled illustrations. Perfect for late night reading!

Directed by Kore-Eda Hirokazu
Five years after winning the Palme d'Or for Shoplifters, Academy award nominated filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda returns with Broker, starring Cannes Best actor winner Song Kang Ho (Parasite). The film follows two brokers who sell orphaned infants, circumventing the bureaucracy of legal adoption, to affluent couples who can't have children of their own. After an infant's mother surprises the duo by returning to ensure her child finds a good home, the three embark on a journey to find the right couple, building an unlikely family of their own.
From Lewis: I really enjoyed this movie, but I have to admit it’s a hard sell on paper! A story that concerns the antics of two men who sell orphans sounds pretty harrowing. However, I found this to be a surprisingly funny and tender road trip drama about the institutional issues that impact the lives of abandoned children and the importance of belonging. Think Korea’s answer to Little Miss Sunshine! Highly Recommended.
