Songs Inside - Special Event Screenings
For the first of these two special events on Wednesday 18 December 2024, experience 'Songs Inside' by meeting the filmmakers and the female subject, performers The Songbirds.
The award-winning documentary was made by Unley-based filmmakers Shalom Almond and Katrina Lucas and chronicles the transformative journey of a group of women from the Adelaide Women's Prison who, over six months, discover the healing power of music.
The creative process unearths profound struggles with trauma and addiction, showing that even within the complexities of prison life, music and singing can service as a universal force for healing and hope. Led by Barkindji singer-songwriter Nancy Bates, their journey culminates in a historic performance with an audience of over 200 inmates, family members and guests, backed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
The ticket price of $30 includes a complimentary drink on arrival, and all proceeds go towards a social impact campaign to challenge social attitudes about incarcerated women, and to advocate for systemic change.
The second screening happens on Saturday 18 January 2025. Again, you can meet and hear from the filmmakers and be treated to a special musical performance featuring Barkindji singer Nancy Bates, Julian Ferraretto and The Songbirds.
Admission to the film and performance is $40, includes a drink on arrival, and you will again be supporting a very worthy cause.
The Try Booking link will allow you to select either event.
