Focus Area 2 of the Unley Parking Management Implementation Plan (UPMIP) is about shifting the current renewal expiry date of 31 December 2024 to 31 March 2025.

This change is to support an improved level of customer services during a non-holiday period, as staff resources are generally limited in December due to Christmas and New Years.

Frequently asked questions

2.1 Why is the permit renewal date changing?

This year, the resident parking permit renewal date will change from 31 December 2024 to 31 March 2025.

This change is to support an improved level of customer services during a non-holiday period, as staff resources are generally limited in December due to Christmas and New Years. It allows the permit renewal period to occur when Council operates at full staff capacity.

This new timeframe also enables Council to implement any required changes to time limit controls or introduce other parking management measures contained within the Unley Parking Management Plan. It provides adequate time for Council to develop new permit types including Mobility Access Permits, Temporary Caravan/Trailer Exemption Permits and Business Parking Permits.

As a permit holder, you are not required to do anything now as this change is automatic. As we approach 31 March 2025, we will send you a letter to let you know when it is time to renew your resident parking permit.

2.2 Are existing resident permits or other permit exemptions affected before 31 March 2025?

No. Current resident permit exemptions or other permit exemption (e.g. legacy trial business permits) will remain valid until the expiry date of 31 March 2025.

After 31 March 2025, all renewed or new resident permit and business permits will be managed in line with the Unley Parking Management Plan 2023-2033.

2.3 Will there be a fee associated with shifting the expiry date?

No, there is no cost to current permit holders as a result of the renewal date changing from 31 December 2024 to 31 March 2025.

2.4 How many permits can be issued to a property?

Parking in our area is a limited and a shared resource. Council is focusing on providing fair parking access for residents and other users in our local streets.

Council issues permits to properties on a pro-rata basis, considering access to off-street parking and the number of registered vehicles. For more information please refer to Parking Permits.

2.5 How much will my next resident permit cost?

The cost of a 2023/24 Resident Parking Only Permit and other permits can be found on our Parking Permits page.

The cost of the next resident permit is yet to be determined. Fees will be updated and publicly available before the end of 2024.

Please note that all current resident permits have been extended from 31 December 2024 to 31 March 2025 at no additional charge.
