Since the development of a Goodwood Oval Improvement Plan in 2014, Council has worked with the clubs to develop options for a future upgrade in order to secure external funding.
At its meeting on 27 November 2017, Council accepted State Government funding of $2.5 million for the grandstand upgrade, as well as $150k from the sports and clubs, and Council also allocated $950k towards the project. At this time, Council also committed to a two-storey as its preferred upgrade option.
The redevelopment aims to establish the Goodwood Oval precinct as a regional sporting hub that provides excellent facilities for sport and vibrant open space for the broader community.
The grandstand upgrades have been designed to ensure that we meet the requirements of the respective sports for local competition, including the AFL and Cricket Australia, and will promote the growth of both sports, including women's participation in the region. The Goodwood Oval redevelopment will:
- Improve and provide quality facilities for all users of the oval, including for the first time, change rooms designed specifically for the needs of women and junior participants
- Improve the aesthetic appearance of the grandstands and streetscape
- Improve accessibility for those with mobility impairments
- Provide new facilities available for community use.
